Updated: PS2 drops to $99
Update: This was indeed Sony's announcement.
On the PlayStation Blog, Sony's John Koller announces, "Today I'm
excited to talk about another milestone in PlayStation 2's lifespan.
For the first time ever, PlayStation 2 will be offered at a price point
under $100 (that's $99.99 MSRP, to be exact), starting April 1!"
Kotaku has received a tip from a Kmart employee that indicates a PS2 price drop to $99.99. The PS2 is currently priced at $129.99 in the United States. Sony says they have a "major announcement" tomorrow and it seems like this is it. A PS2 price drop probably isn't what most people had in mind for this announcement, but it looks like thats what were getting.
Regardless, we'll know for sure tomorrow.

I can see Sony's strategy and it's not all bad. They no doubt have internal numbers which state how many existing PS2 owners are upgrading to PS3. The more PS2 owners, the more PS3 owners some years down the track.
Hope it works out.
